Background

Against the backdrop of increasing urban densification and associated challenges—such as heavy rainfall events and urban overheating—the "sponge city" concept emerged, aiming to capture, store, and beneficially utilize rainwater. Despite the need for such solutions, there is a lack of the specialized knowledge and digital skills required to effectively plan and implement these projects.

Objectives

The project aims to develop and conduct a continuing education program that equips professionals and managers in water management, urban planning, and related fields with the necessary knowledge and digital skills to effectively plan, implement, and manage "sponge city" concepts. The course is intended to specifically foster the use of digital methods and tools in the implementation of sponge city concepts.

Contents

The course covers a wide range of topics, including the fundamentals of the "sponge city" concept, digital simulation and analysis tools, water management planning, sustainable urban development, and project management. The curriculum is complemented by practical exercises, case studies, and the use of software tools to ensure a realistic learning experience.
