Integration of the concept of the "sponge city" to develop a model for the sustainable restoration and management of water resources in areas affected by military activities.

Support programme

Bavarian funding programme for the initiation of international research collaborations

Background

The southern regions of Ukraine are severely affected by war and climate change. Watercourses and neighbouring ecosystems are under particular pressure. The project promotes German-Ukrainian cooperation in water management by creating a synergy of knowledge from both countries on sustainable concepts - in particular that of "integrated food production".

Objective

Development of a practical model for watercourse restoration adapted to Ukrainian conditions, including:

  • Rainwater management
  • Restoration of hydrological processes
  • Green infrastructure
The aim is to develop specific projects and applications for future pilot projects in Ukraine.
