Certificate course on digital methods in sponge projects

In the context of increasing urban densification and the associated challenges such as heavy rainfall events and urban overheating, the concept of the sponge city emerged, which aims to capture, store and utilise rainwater. Despite the need for such solutions, there is a lack of specialised knowledge and digital skills to effectively plan and implement these projects.

Learning journey as an innovative training concept

The course, with 30 teaching units of 90 minutes each, provides participants with the key skills they need to understand sponge city projects and realise them using the latest digital methods. The training takes place in presence, online and independently with the help of a video portal. This allows participants to determine their own learning progress and adapt it to their own needs

Interdisciplinary participants

The experience of the participants from different disciplines offers a decisive advantage when sharing ideas. The mix of people from the fields of architecture, water management, administration, planning and much more allows the topic of the sponge city to be discussed constructively and its complexity to be experienced.

State-of-the-art methods for imparting knowledge and acquiring skills

Knowledge is best conveyed in practice-orientated set-ups and experiments. This is why tools such as an augmented reality sandbox or simulation software are used in this training programme. The organisational basis is a learning management platform. Each participant receives their own virtual whiteboard to document reflections or work on a specific application project.
